The verb eclipse means to make another person or thing seem much less important, good, or famous; eclipse also means to make the Sun or Moon completely dark because of the position of the Sun, Moon and Earth in relation to each other. An ellipse is a regular oval shape. Do not use ellipse to mean eclipse.
